Title: | Hypertensive encephalopathy: antecedent to hippocampal sclerosis and temporal lobe epilepsy? | Austin Authors: | Solinas, C;Briellmann, Regula S;Harvey, A Simon;Mitchell, L Anne;Berkovic, Samuel F | Affiliation: | Epilepsy Research Institute, University of Melbourne and Austin and Repatriation Medical Center, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia | Issue Date: | 13-May-2003 | Publication information: | Neurology; 60(9): 1534-6 | Abstract: | The authors describe three patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) following an episode of hypertensive encephalopathy as their only identified antecedent event. All patients had typical MR features of hippocampal sclerosis (HS), and the two operated cases had typical HS histology and became seizure-free postoperatively. These cases suggest that hypertensive encephalopathy may be a rare form of initial precipitating injury, leading to TLE and HS. | Gov't Doc #: | 12743248 | URI: | https://ahro.austin.org.au/austinjspui/handle/1/9495 | Journal: | Neurology | URL: | https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12743248 | Type: | Journal Article | Subjects: | Anterior Temporal Lobectomy Antihypertensive Agents.therapeutic use Child Child, Preschool Diagnostic Imaging Epilepsy, Complex Partial.etiology.surgery Epilepsy, Temporal Lobe.etiology.physiopathology.surgery Female Glomerulonephritis.complications Hippocampus.pathology Humans Hypertension, Renal.complications Hypertensive Encephalopathy.complications.drug therapy.physiopathology Mucocutaneous Lymph Node Syndrome.complications Nephrotic Syndrome.complications Retrospective Studies Sclerosis.etiology |
