Issue Date: | Jan-2023 | Date: | 2022 | Publication information: | Epilepsy & Behavior : E&B 2023; 138 | Abstract: | People with epilepsy have a higher prevalence of medical and psychiatric comorbidities compared to the general population. Comorbidities are associated with poor epilepsy outcomes, and there have been recommendations for screening and early identification to improve clinical management. Data from 'First Seizure Clinics' (FSCs) with expert epileptological review can inform about disorders already present at the point of diagnosis of epilepsy or unprovoked seizures. Here, we aimed to describe pre-existing conditions with a focus on psychiatric, substance use, cardiac, neurological, and cancer health domains. | URI: | https://ahro.austin.org.au/austinjspui/handle/1/31953 | DOI: | 10.1016/j.yebeh.2022.108960 | ORCID: | Journal: | Epilepsy & Behavior : E&B | Start page: | 108960 | PubMed URL: | 36427450 | ISSN: | 1525-5069 | Type: | Journal Article | Subjects: | Multimorbidity New-onset seizures Epilepsy/complications Epilepsy/diagnosis Epilepsy/epidemiology Seizures/diagnosis Mental Disorders/diagnosis Mental Disorders/epidemiology |
