Title: | Utility of thromboelastography in managing acquired Factor VIII inhibitor associated massive haemorrhage. | Austin Authors: | Fisher, C ;Mo, A ;Warrillow, Stephen J ;Smith, C;Jones, Daryl A | Affiliation: | Department of Intensive Care, Austin Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria. | Issue Date: | 1-Nov-2013 | Publication information: | Anaesthesia and Intensive Care; 41(6): 799-803 | Abstract: | Disorders of clotting and coagulation are common in the intensive care unit. Diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of these disorders are traditionally based on conventional coagulation tests such as activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and international normalised ratio (INR). We present here a patient who developed massive postoperative haemorrhage secondary to an acquired factor VIII inhibitor. The case highlights the utility and sensitivity of thromboelastography (TEG) in the diagnosis of the condition and monitoring the response to therapy. | Gov't Doc #: | 24180723 | URI: | https://ahro.austin.org.au/austinjspui/handle/1/11927 | Journal: | Anaesthesia and Intensive Care | URL: | https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24180723 | Type: | Journal Article | Subjects: | acquired Factor VII inhibitor thromboelastography Antifibrinolytic Agents.therapeutic use Blood Coagulation Factors.therapeutic use Blood Transfusion.methods Endometrial Neoplasms.complications.surgery Factor VIIa.therapeutic use Female Follow-Up Studies Hematoma.complications.drug therapy Hemophilia A.diagnosis.drug therapy Humans Middle Aged Partial Thromboplastin Time.methods Postoperative Hemorrhage.diagnosis.drug therapy Radiography, Abdominal.methods Recombinant Proteins.therapeutic use Renal Insufficiency.complications.therapy Renal Replacement Therapy.methods Respiration, Artificial.methods Respiratory Insufficiency.complications.therapy Thrombelastography.methods Tomography, X-Ray Computed.methods Tranexamic Acid.therapeutic use Treatment Outcome |
