Title: | Mushroom worker's lung: organic dust exposure in the spawning shed. | Austin Authors: | Hoy, Ryan F;Pretto, Jeffrey J;van Gelderen, David;McDonald, Christine F | Affiliation: | Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, Austin Health, Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia | Issue Date: | 7-May-2007 | Publication information: | Medical Journal of Australia; 186(9): 472-4 | Abstract: | Two people employed for several years in the spawning shed of a mushroom farm developed mushroom worker's lung. The first patient presented in respiratory failure, with radiological features characteristic of hypersensitivity pneumonitis. The condition of the second patient was subacute on presentation, with a computed tomography (CT) scan showing ground-glass opacities. With absence from the workplace and no steroid therapy, the symptoms of both patients subsided and the results of lung function tests and CT scans improved markedly. | Gov't Doc #: | 17484710 | URI: | https://ahro.austin.org.au/austinjspui/handle/1/10373 | Journal: | Medical Journal of Australia | URL: | https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17484710 | Type: | Journal Article | Subjects: | Adult Agaricus Agricultural Workers' Diseases.diagnosis Alveolitis, Extrinsic Allergic.diagnosis.etiology Dust Humans Lung.radiography Male Occupational Exposure.adverse effects Tomography, X-Ray Computed |
